175th Infantry Regimental Association supports Loyola Greyhound Battalion’s Staff Ride to Gettysburg

LTC Tim Mitroka Department Chair & Professor of Military Science invited Dr. Glenn Williams and COL(Ret) William Everett of the 175th Infantry Association to attend the 2023 Loyola/Towson ROTC Greyhound Battalion’s Staff Ride to Gettysburg PA.

This invitation was gratefully accepted and Dr. Williams and COL(Ret) Everett accompanied LTC Mitroka and the Cadets to Gettysburg on a beautiful Friday the 21st of April 2023. After viewing the movie “A New Birth of Freedom” which provided the backdrop of the three day Battle of Gettysburg, the cadets observed the Cyclorama, which depicted the third day of the battle.

Immediately afterwards, the staff ride traveled to various locations on the Battlefield, where the senior cadets provided information briefings on the Battlefield operating systems, comparing the lessons earned from the Gettysburg campaign to current applications.

Dr. Williams and COL(Ret) Everett provided additional lessons learned on leadership and the personalities of the combatants.

The day culminated along Cemetery Ridge just north of the “Angle” (aka High Water Mark, Corps of Trees) with discussion on Pickett’s charge and lessons learned from one of the most significant battles of the American Civil War.

Gifts of the “Combat Leader’s Guide” were provided to the cadets from the Association as they prepare to be commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the US Army.
